It's a start! I think these proposals will improve things in a small location for pedestrians, but won't have that much effect on cycling.

It is important to retain the aim of developing continuous protected space for cyclists on both sides of Derby Road between Canning Circus and Clifton Boulevard, without any interruption for parked motor vehicles outside shops, etc., at least as a longer term scheme for when the increased use of ebikes has helped to encourage the use of more bikes for riding uphill towards Canning Circus on the hilliest part of this route, and therefore a lower proportion of eastbound cyclists are likely to opt for the less hilly routes through Lenton and The Park etc. In terms of the more short-term measures these suggestions are basically welcome as a way of making it safer to cross this section of Derby Road between adjoining relatively quiet streets. However, it will be important to assess carefully the impact on through cyclists on Derby Road of increasing the size of existing central refuges. For downhill (westbound) cyclists the proposed green surfacing markings must be continuous and uninterrupted. Building out the central refugees will be very poor cycling along this road (it's already uncomfortable when some passes you through them) - if crossing are to be provided proper single stage crossings should be provided.

weirdly located toucan crossings are not comfortable cycling infrastructure. Having to transition onto the footway, get into conflict with anyone there, press a button, wait, then cross and do the conflict thing on the other side, is not good provision.

I support all these proposals and strongly support the installation of full pedestrian crossings at the Derby Road/Lenton Boulevard junction.
