Enforcement of the restricted street access is very important to keep out car drivers where there is no physical deterrent and reliance on goodwill. I don't understand is the planter merely restricting the width of the road? Also, Is the no entry at the Beechdale street end a peramanent closure to through traffic or only at Drop off/pick up times?

The problem is that kids do not walk or (especially) cycle to school .This proposal does nothing to change that. It is a sticking plaster not a root cause solution. Try again, this time do like they would in the Netherlands.

I drive this way from work and some days hit it during school pick up and groan every time i realise i have turned onto a road that i cant drive down very easily. i turn off Beechdale Road on to Fircroft and do not feel a no entry sign from Beechdale road would stop the appalling way the parents drive and park during school pick up. Rather than solving this problem by penalising every driver, target the root of the problem which is parents feeling the need to park as close to the school gates as possible, parking on both sides of the road, blocking the road, opening car doors onto the road when you are trying to drive through the road. I never understand why parents feel the need to park as close as they can to the school gates, their children have legs, i am sure they could walk one street length to the car. I also never understand how laws and the Highway Code do not seem to apply to parents doing school run. I see them parked on double yellow lines, parked on corners, on kerbs, blocking the view when trying to turn into or out of the road, blocking driveways and garages and getting irate when you need to access your own drive or garage (I have witnessed this a number of times), they park on yellow warning lines and double yellows. I know we have a shortage of Police but I think if more of these drivers were targeted by fines (and repeated offenders with points on their licence), this would help to solve the problem. Target the problem, don't just penalise everyone.
