Victoria Embankment

In August 2020, we introduced a trial scheme to prevent through traffic driving along Victoria Embankment. The trial was intended to create a safe and welcoming space to encourage more people to walk and cycle to and through the park and along the riverside.

In November 2020, following public feedback, we made some changes to the scheme. Through traffic was still prevented, however the extent of the traffic free section was reduced in length, which allowed more parking spaces for visitors, and closer access to the memorial for people with limited mobility.

We have received lots of feedback on the scheme, which we have considered along with data collected from traffic monitoring. We would like to thank all of you who took the time to provide feedback last year.

A council survey last year showed that parks and green spaces had become more important for residents as a result of the pandemic, and the trial scheme remains in place. We would now like to hear your views on a proposal to make the scheme permanent. Details can be seen on the plan below, along with traffic monitoring data and FAQs.

Any permanent changes would also be subject to further consultation including the legal statutory processes.
